Hiking

Stand face to face with nature as you walk along the Canadian Shield. Whether you’re an experienced hiker looking for a challenge or a novice just looking to spend a day strolling away from civilization, your journey starts here.

Orphan Lake Trail

One of the most diverse trails in Lake Superior Provincial Park, Orphan Lake Trail offers an excellent introduction to hiking. Find spectacular lookouts as you descend 328 ft. to an isolated pebble beach on Lake Superior. The trail also winds upstream along the Baldhead River, past rapids and waterfalls!

Pancake Bay

Pancake Bay boasts a nature trail where visitors can explore some of the park’s most interesting features up close. One section of the trail crosses a cedar swamp with a wide variety of wetland vegetation while another highlight is an enormous boulder that was carried from some distant place more than 10,000 years ago by receding glaciers.

Coastal Trail

The most challenging and demanding trail in Lake Superior Provincial Park, the Coastal Trail takes you along the high cliffs and rocky beaches of Lake Superior. The trail ascends and descends over cliffs, rocky outcrops, beaches, boulders and driftwood. The lichen covered rocks can be very slippery, especially when wet with dew, fog or rain. So watch your step!
